Labelling Requirement Standard for Electrical Appliances

May 27th to 29th, 2015, the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards hosted a regional workshop the new energy project entitled: Quality Infrastructure for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Sources in Latin America and the Caribbean, that was preceded by the Eastern Caribbean Energy Labelling Project.

The CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality - CROSQ) - has now submitted a New Work Item Proposal (NWIP) for the development of a Draft CARICOM Standard “Labelling of Electrical Appliances – Requirements” - for evaluation. This new work item will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to play their part in making way for energy efficiency labelling of electrical appliances that would indicate the energy used, in addition to the cost of operation in local currency.

The objective of the standard is to ensure that labels for electrical appliances provide invaluable product information, in a clear consistent and legible manner. This would allow consumers to make informed purchasing decisions, and assess the value or usefulness of electrical appliances. As a member of the CROSQ, the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards’ participation in this process is important.

As the national organization mandated to develop standards we are of the view that this standard would be of particular interest to Antigua and Barbuda. The Bureau therefore invites all stakeholders to peruse the linked proposal and complete the associated evaluation form to provide your opinion on the development of this standard.

Your feedback is important to us as this determines Antigua and Barbuda’s position on this New Work Item Proposal. Kindly submit the evaluation forms to the Bureau of Standards by Friday 12th June, 2015.

If you would like any further information, you can contact the Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards at 462-2424 or email and copy to

We look forward to your participation in this process and your support.
