The signing of the Metre Convention on the 20th May 1865, brought into effect a standardized system of units of measurement, and its industrial, commercial and societal applications. The original aim of the Metre Convention – the world-wide uniformity of measurement – remains as important today as it was in 1875.

The Antigua and Barbuda Bureau of Standards together with the International Metrology Community is celebrating World Metrology Day 2018 under the theme ‘Constant evolution of the International System of Units’, acknowledging that a redefinition of the SI Units (International System of Units) is to be agreed upon in November of this year.
